It Can Be Done! We Booked A Ryanair Flight For Under $25

If there's any single airline we'd rather not fly (other than Aeroflot, that is), it's got to be the Irish low cost carrier Ryanair. Boy oh boy, have we called them some names in the past, all the while unearthing their nickel-and-diming schemes to possibly charge passengers to use the bathroom and allow smoking on flights. But, with a European trip on our horizon, we're willing to let bygones be bygones and fly the fee-riddled skies of Ryanair.

In fact, we have a somewhat fond memory of our last Ryanair flight— a roundtrip from Rome-Ciampino to Barcelona-Girona that cost us a total of $45, not counting bus fare. But those were the days before Ryanair removed check-in desks and expanded their routes to irresistible locations. So, this past weekend while needing some time away from the Thanksgiving table, we visited the Ryanair website and yes—we bought tickets on a flight. The grand total for two passengers on a one-way flight from Brussels-Charleroi to Edinburgh? 14 Euro.

The shockingly low fare explained, after the jump.

The proof is above; a screencap from our booking confirmation. So how did we manage to steer clear of Ryanair's infamous hidden fees? It's simple; we're practically in the cargo hold. We checked "no" to checked bags, "no" to priority boarding, "no" to trip insurance, we're not flying out of or into a London airport, and we booked almost two months in advance. Of course we'll have to fork over 10+ Euros for the buses from the airports to the city centers, but all the gloating we're able to do over the measly fare will easily make up for that.

The fare breakdown is: Two one-way tickets from Brussels-Charleroi to Edinburgh: 4 Euro (2 Euro per person). Credit card processing fees: 10 Euro (5 Euro per ticket). Free online check-in, for now. Total: 14 Euro ($21).

So come the end of January, expect a sweet full rundown of the current state of Ryanair, fresh as we are from the tarmac. We're looking forward to seeing just how much more advertising they've been able to fit onto the barf bags and tray tables, and if the flight attendants will charge us for their safety briefing (kidding about that). We are a bit sad that we won't be transiting through our old friend, London-Stansted Airport, but for an airfare price of 14 Euro, we'll forget about it for a moment.

We'll see

You *booked* the flight for under $25, but it remains to be seen if you can actually *take* the flight without incurring some sneaky additional fee. I look forward to the follow-up.

Ryanair

Victor, about time you said something good about Ryanair...they are a fantastic airline if you play by the rules of 1. Paying by a Visa Electron Card 2. Taking only hand luggage 3. Going without food or drink onboard for a max of around 2hrs 4. Travelling Monday - Thursday (Avoiding weekends) 5. BEING FLEXIBLE I live in the UK and have travelled for next to nothing by using Ryanair, here are some examples: UK to... (Return Flights) Krakow,Poland - Total Cost £5 Belfast, Northen Ireland £0.02 Dublin, Ireland - £10 Rome, Italy - £20 Berlin, Germany £20 Prague, Czech Republic £5
