Five Good Bars At Five Major Airports For Holiday Travel

There’s a lot of busy airports around the country today, but hopefully you’ve already made your way through the terminal and are reading this thanks to free in-flight WiFi. If that’s not the case, here’s a few places to relax within some of the nation’s busiest airports.

· LaGuardia Airport - New York City:
The airports in New York are always stressful; after all, they are full of New Yorkers trying to get out of town. If the weather or air traffic has you stuck for a few, take a moment to relax at the Fox Sports Bar and Restaurant in the Delta Terminal. It’s not going to make the list of airport bests, but there’s plenty of beer on tap and you’ll be able to watch football despite being miles away from your home. If anything can cure a Thanksgiving disaster it’s a few beers and some football.

More stress reducing establishments after the break

· Hartsfield-Jackson Airport - Atlanta:
Things in Atlanta are always busy, so expect the worse if you’re making a connection for your holiday travel. For long layovers or delays hop on that terminal train thing and make your way to Terminal E. There you will find One Flew South, a restaurant that probably belongs outside of the airport. Of course there is tasty food, but you need to save room for grandma’s turkey. Hit the drink list and get a Silver Wing Fizz—gin, lemon juice, sugar, club soda, and egg white. The protein from the egg will hold you over ‘til dinner and you know what the booze part does.

· Detroit Metro Airport - Detroit:
For those visiting or passing through Detroit there’s a great layover option within the McNamara Terminal. The On-Line Cafe by gate A36 will get you connected to friends and family with WiFi—for a fee—and computer terminals. If our memory serves us correctly there’s alcohol to be had here as well, but with most things related to drinking, we’re having a hard time remembering the specifics. If you’re hungry for more, there’s some sushi action not too far away—although that probably is against some kind of Thanksgiving tradition.

· O'Hare International Airport - Chicago:
Weather in the Midwest can go from bad to worse quickly, so proximity to an airport pick-me-up is essential. While certainly not the most unique pick, we’re nominating Chili’s—yes the place in every suburban shopping mall. It’s in Terminal 1, 2, and 3 so an overpriced margarita is never too far away. After all, sometimes you need a little tequila to get through your day. Probably best to order a couple at a time—they’re probably watered down a bit.

· Denver International Airport - Denver:
The Mile High City is known for lots of things, but one of them has got to be good beer. So skip the usual airport draft options and locate Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery in Concourse C. They make their own beers and have several locations in the area so it’s probably a safe choice. If you’re a little more stressed than usual and need a couple extra drinks make sure you sign up for the Mug Club. Your lack of control will be rewarded with drinking related prizes like a pint glass. Maybe you can even pass off your winnings as a Christmas present.
