The country officially starts its seasonal celebration with the lighting of the National Christmas Tree on December 3 at 5 pm. That’s a Thursday, so you might need to call out of work for a couple days. If you’re in attendance you’ll witness the lighting of one big tree and 56 smaller ones. The smaller evergreens represent each state as well as five territories and the District of Columbia—it’s important not to forget the little guys during the holidays. There’s usually some decent entertainment as well, but they haven’t announced the headliners just yet. This is the first year they’re doing the whole thing online, and it certainly beats waiting in a long line first thing in the morning. Be sure to let us know if you snag some tickets.
