Unlike other festivals, many of which are focused on the glitter and glam of red carpet premieres or hustling to find distribution, the Backcountry Fest has a do-gooder bent to it. The festival benefits the Winter Wildlands Alliance's conservation efforts, which aim to maintain "the natural splendor of the precious snowscapes found on our public lands." Those snowy climes can't protect themselves, after all, especially not when they're being overrun by motorized vehicles and the like.
The roving festival starts in Boise, Idaho on November 7th, and from there will visit weather-appropriate locations including Truckee, California, Homer, Alaska, and McMurdo, Antarctica. A long list of cities are set to host Backcountry through January of next year, so to find out what dates have been confirmed, and what locations are being added to the list, you'll want to check the official website.
This year's line up includes Winter Dreaming, a look at Australia's Alps, and Flakes, an HD ski film whose trailer you can watch below. Already we're reaching for our North Face jacket.
