Football Rivalry Travel: The Bruins And Trojans Head To The Coliseum

November 20, 2009 at 9:39 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

The weather is getting cooler, and college football is going strong. Here’s the scoop on just one of the country’s best rivalries to help your sports travel planning.

· Rivalry Match-Up: UCLA at USC on November 28.
These two teams have been playing since you great grandparents were in college, so there has been plenty of bad blood over the years to get the rivalry going. Students see each other around town since both schools are located in Los Angeles, so the constant trash talking isn’t just between the schools’ coaches. Yes, they too love to mouth off at one another whenever they get the chance. USC leads the all time series and will probably bring home the win this year. However, if UCLA can pull out a win, the Victory Bell will be sporting Bruin blue for the holiday season.

Stadium Info and tips on where to sleep and party, after the jump.

· Home Turf: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Both teams kind of share the home field advantage even though USC is technically the home team. They even have decided to both wear their home uniforms in past seasons although it’s a violation of NCAA equipment rules. The two teams usually agree to be penalized by a timeout or two just to follow tradition. You’ll easily know which side of the stadium to sit on, just be sure to pick maroon or blue and stick with it. Expect about 90,000 fans to hit the restrooms at the exact same time during half time, it's going to be a full house.

· Away Team Accommodations:
Since it’s LA you are probably going to end up driving to the game, so proximity to the Coliseum really doesn’t matter too much. However, we realize that some alumni may have migrated away from the area and need to get back into town for the big game. CheapOair.com has some decent deals, including rates as low as $105 a night for the weekend at the Los Angeles Marriott Downtown. It's pretty close to the pigskin party as long as the traffic is light—ha. If you want a place with a little more action check out one of the best hotel bars in town, thanks to our buddies at HotelChatter.

· Where to Party:
If you’re looking for SoCal coeds to party with then you’ll need to just stumble a few blocks onto the campus of USC. Just make sure that no UCLA fans are tagging along. For those that need to stumble a little further, make your way to the 901 Bar and Grill—there’s a Fatburger on the way if you get hungry. The Nine-O, as it’s known by the younger crowd, is the default location for cheap drinks and big TVs. If you don’t have a ticket this is probably the place to hang out. It might not be the classiest location around, but you’ll definitely get that back-in-college feeling.
