Colorado Ski Town Ready For Wacky Tobaccy To Hit The Slopes

November 11, 2009 at 8:59 AM | by kjb | 3 Comments

There’s a new way to relax after a long day on the ski slopes, and we’re not talking about downing a hot toddy by the lodge fireplace. The town of Breckenridge, Colorado recently voted to legalize marijuana within the ski town. For those that spend more time rolling down the mountain rather than remaining on two feet—this is excellent news.

The town voted overwhelmingly to allow snowboarders, skiers, and all others over 21 years old to have up to an ounce of ghanja. However, there is a slight catch, so hold off on heading to your friendly neighborhood head shop. In case you aren’t too familiar with state law, marijuana is still technically illegal in Colorado. So the measure that was approved was more of a local opinion than anything else.

Residents are hoping that by voicing their concern the local police will leave citizens alone who just want to engage in a little recreational drug use. Colorado does allow marijuana for medical reasons, so there’s already a decent supply of the drug coming into the state. We’ll let you know as soon as any of the local ski resorts set up some kind of ski-and smoke-vacation package deal.

    Demeaning, Inappropriate Writing

Where do you get off adopting such a disdainful attitude towards people who use cannabis? It is offensive, and it makes for a very poor article too. "There's a new way to relax after a long day on the ski slopes, and we're not talking about downing a hot toddy by the lodge fireplace" -- if you were describing imbibing a hot toddy it wouldn't be new, would it? "For those that spend more time rolling down the mountain rather than remaining on two feet ..." -- from bad to worse; this is a silly way to characterize what happens when people drink too much then try to ski or snowboard, and it surely has nothing to do with the experience of people who use cannabis -- you'll find us out in force at every ski area, and not "rolling down the mountain" -- what ridiculous writing! "... so hold off on heading to your friendly neighborhood head shop" -- one cannot purchase cannabis there anyway. "Colorado does allow marijuana for medical reasons, so there's already a decent supply of the drug coming into the state" -- no, most medicinal cannabis is grown here; the cannabis coming into the state supplies the illicit market. "We'll let you know as soon as any of the local ski resorts set up some kind of ski-and smoke-vacation package deal" -- don't bother; I'll be visiting your site again when hell freezes over.

    Disdainful?

A disdainful attitude towards people who "use cannabis" would be saying something like, "Breckenridge has made a terrible mistake by voting to legalize marijuana" supplemented with a picture of Nancy Reagan and her Just Say No campaign. All we did was just write different sayings for smoking weed.
