Disney Installs 200,000 Hand Sanitizers To Preempt Spread Of Swine Flu

The holidays are a big time for Walt Disney World. The parks are transformed into a winter wonderland—well, a fake one as they are in Florida after all—and the guests pour in through the turnstiles. Some days the park has to limit guest access because there are just too many tourists dreaming of a holiday photo with Mickey and friends. All these people are starting to worry some, especially if these people are coughing, sneezing, and leaving their germs all over Space Mountain.

Thankfully, Disney is ready to combat the spread of germs, and is hoping that their efforts will be enough to convince people that their park is safe. After all, the threat of catching that pesky H1N1 flu is kind of a downer and not the stuff dreams are made of. Thus, Disney World has ordered about 200,000 hand sanitizers—although we're wondering why they haven’t always had some.

Staff at the mouse house have been trained on all the ins and outs of proper sanitation and have also been given free seasonal flu shots. Even the costumed characters will head backstage and change into a fresh costume in case they have to interact with an especially germy kid. The theme park is probably a breeding ground, but they are doing their best. Just try to avoid those looking especially flu-stricken, and carry your own personal supply of Purell. Remember that if you don’t have fun because of the Swine Flu, then the Swine Flu wins.

Another Germ-Prevention Tip

My child came home from school saying they learned to cough and sneeze into their elbows with Germie Wormie, and I was totally taken aback. I always used my hands. But I went to the website, and now I get it, hands touch, elbows don't!! Kids can touch up to 300 surfaces in 1/2 an hour, and they hate to wash their hands. This is a simple thing that can make a huge difference. There is also an entertaining DVD that teaches kids how to do this and reinforces other important hygiene habits.

nice idea

It is a nice idea for sure. However I think that they are thinking about their business more because they could close Disney world for few days at all. However it is a nice and useful feature and I am sure that it helped to prevent the spread of swine flu and other infections like stomach virus or others. It is nice that now this horrible situation with pandemic flu is over and people can live their lifes like that were doing that before. Thanks for the interesting article however. Keep writing such nice ones in the future too.

flu

What a great idea! Few places could be germier than a theme park. Thousands of people touching the same railings, counters, and food with sparse bathrooms for handwashing. If your kids have a cold or bronchitis, postpone the trip!

Disney Prevention

It is great that Disneyland is following suit and taking steps toward prevention of germs, especially in light of H1N1. Perhaps they could have led the way instead of followed suit... symptoms considering the fact that so many people congregate in one place. Anyway, perhaps attendees will feel safer in going to Disneyland... and not forfeiting the fun in order to stay healthy.

HealthByChoice

It is great to see that Disneyland is opting for the health of it's visitors more than cough grasping for more profits! Yeah, Disneyland!
