Tweet Of The Week: The Return Of Fuel Surcharges?

November 10, 2009 at 6:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

We love Tuesdays. Why, you ask? Because the day brings many travel tips and quips as "Travel Tuesday" on Twitter, and we're going to share our favorite with you. Got an avid travel twitterer we should follow? Let us know.

Have we been too focused on the rise of holiday travel fees and the continued ridiculousness that are checked baggage fees to see that giant fuel surcharges are back? While it's true that during our compulsive airfare searching, we've noticed higher prices on international flights, the thought that it could be related to fuel sits in cobwebs at the back of our mind.

Thus, we turned to the Twitter of travel royalty, Pauline Frommer, who noticed these added fees for Europe flights, saying:

Surprised no-one's been tweeting about the return of fuel surcharges. East Coast US to Europe now an add'l $200-plus! Uggh

No one might be tweeting about it, but we'll blog about it. Curious, we searched for New York JFK to Reykjavik, Iceland flights on five booking sites, and didn't spot any added fuel surcharges. Maybe they haven't jumped from Europe mainland over to Iceland yet, but Pauline's got us shaking in our boots.

Have you spotted any added fuel charges lately? Let us know in the comments!
