Find Out 'Where The Wild Things Are' Next Week In New York City

October 9, 2009 at 3:38 PM | by egw | 0 Comments

Spike Jonze's adaptation of the children's classic "Where The Wild Things Are" opens October 16th, and if you can't actually be with Max in the woods, head to New York for some wild activities.

Wild Things Week introduces kids of all ages to Maurice Sendak's book and gets them excited for the Dave Eggers-scripted movie. Aside from fashion collaborations inspired by the movie and reissues of the book, there are tons of events happening around the country to celebrate the favorite childrens' book. We've discovered a few just in New York City, but we're sure that a google search should bring up a few events in whatever city you live in.

NYC's wild rumpus beings after the jump.

· At the Morgan Library (225 Madison Avenue), check out Sendak's original drawings of the magnificent beasties through November 1st.

· On October 13th at 4PM, Catherine Keener and Forest Whitaker (who play humans in the new flick) will read aloud from the book to some lucky kids in the south court of the New York Public Library (5th Avenue and 42nd St.). There will be a bilingual reading Sunday at the Queens Museum of Art (in Corona Park), and kids can paint their own Wild Thing from 1:30 to 4:30.

· Museum of Modern Art (11 W. 53rd St.) is bringing back some of Jonze's lesser known projects for screenings all week, including "Heavy Metal in Baghdad," a documentary he produced on Iraqi rock bands (Oct. 14 at 4:30 or Oct. 17 at 4:30).

· Sadly, a preview screening on the 14th hosted by John Hodgman is already sold out—and good luck getting into the red carpet premiere at Lincoln Center on the 13th!
