2009 Halloween Theme Park Scare Guide: HalloWeekends

October 8, 2009 at 10:34 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

If you're so over the usual haunted houses and Scream masks jumping out at you, you'd still better brace yourself for Cedar Point's haunted toy factory, "Cornstalker" scare maze which only opens after dark, and much more. Cedar Point's HalloWeekends veers away from the family-friendly fun in favor of the macabre and truly frightening.

The haunting has already begun at this amusement park, located on a peninsula in Lake Erie nearest to Sandusky, Ohio. During the summer season, the steep drops from some of the world's highest and fastest roller coasters, surrounded by sparkling water of the lake, is perhaps the scariest thing. But on September 18 through November 1, the park transforms every nook and cranny into a pants-wetting scream zone with 4 haunted houses, 5 scare zones, and 9 live shows.

So it's true that we're one of those folks who practically grew up while waiting in line for the Raptor and the Magnum at Cedar Point, and even our parents headed to Cedar Point in their day for a ride on the Bluestreak. It's a fabulous park, currently ranked as Best Amusement Park in the World, and we're proud of the old girl. But October is indisputably the best time to go, with cooler temperatures, shorter lines, and the added scream factor of the haunted houses, we've died and gone to roller coaster heaven (or hell).

Okay, okay so there are a few family activities, like the Peanuts Halloween Parade and the Hay Bale Maze.

Cedar Point's HalloWeekends
Scare Tactics
Four haunted houses: Happy Jack's Toy Factory, Eerie Estate, Club Blood, and Undertaker University. Five "scare zones": Terror Island, Cornstalkers, Carnevil, Fear Faire (medievel-themed!), and The Fright Zone. Nine live shows: The Return of Dr. Cleaver, The Edge of Madness, Gypsy Fortune Tellers, Graveyard Rockers, DJ Zombo, Magicomedy, and (for the kids) Snoopy's Sing-Along, Fun-Time Frolics, and Halloween Hullabaloo. The fairway will also be full of ghouls and guys, and a hearse becomes the park's most popular meet-up point.
