Football Rivalry Travel: Heading To Forrest Gump's Alma Mater

Professional football has arrived and the World Series is pretty cool, but more importantly for some, college football is going strong. Here’s the scoop on just one of the country’s best rivalries to help your sports travel planning.

· Rivalry Match-Up: LSU at Alabama on November 7
Alabama’s coach used to be the big dog tiger over at LSU, but now he’s calling the plays for the Crimson Tide. Last year he was warmly welcomed with a chorus of boos and name-calling, and we’re pretty much expecting the same thing this year. These two teams have played against each other over seventy times so there’s lots of bad blood. Alabama leads the all time series, but before last year, LSU was cruising with a winning streak.

Stadium Info and tips on where to sleep and party, after the jump.

· Home Turf: Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Alabama knows how to do college football, and their huge stadium shows the world that they mean business. The place holds over 90,000 without a problem, but they’re not done yet. Trustees at the college gave the go ahead for further expansion, so expect future seasons to gather over 100,000 ‘Bama fans. LSU won’t be greeted with any love even in their visiting locker room. In 2008 the locker room was named The Fail Room in honor of alumnus James Fail—who obviously has an awesome sense of humor.

· Away Team Accommodations: If you’re traveling to see your Tigers battle it out, you are definitely a little crazy—the opposing fans will eat you alive. However, if you just need somewhere to stay, be prepared to shell out the cash. We’re just over a week until the game, so lodging is limited. The Candlewood Suites Tuscaloosa is an option, but it’s going to be $400 per night. Even the Econo Lodge in nearby Northport is a cool $200. For visiting fans, this might be a great time to just watch the game at home.

· Where to Party: The best partying will take place right in the parking lot. Like most schools in the South tailgating is a big deal. However, opposing fans won’t be too welcomed, but if you’re friendly and are proudly wearing your Alabama garb you may just be invited to sit down and stay for a bit. So we say to skip the sketchy bars and just try to make some friends. If this doesn't work, there's always Hooters!
