Nevada City, located less than 100 miles from Yellowstone National Park, was once a thriving town, thanks to the gold rush of the 1860’s. But, after the gold rush ended, it became a virtual ghost town. In 1959, Charles Bovey, brought a collection of historic buildings he had been preserving from around Montana to Nevada City. Today, the buildings are maintained by the Montana Heritage Commission and are used for educational and recreational purposes.
There will be plenty of fun stuff planned as well so that you mix work and pleasure. Expect an opportunity to work with an archaeologist and a blacksmith to learn about their trades, a chance to try gold panning, and the option to cook meals over an open fire in Dutch ovens just like they did in the old days.
The Saving The Best Of The West-A Family Experience Trip is $1650 per adult for one week and $950 per child for one week (children must be at least 11 years old). Rates are based on double occupancy and do not include transportation to the site. For more information, you can call Adventures in Preservation at 1-303-444-0128.
