Investigating The Sexually Suggestive Plant Life Of Saint Lucia

October 29, 2009 at 9:29 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

In case you haven't yet noticed from our last few stories, we're kind of stuck on a tropical island right now. You see, the inaugural Jetblue flight to the island dropped us off here back on Monday, and it won't return until later today, since they're only running flights between JFK and St. Lucia's UVF airport on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.

With the time we've had on this lush island, we've done what any castaway would: stare at the horizon and space out, go barefoot, snoop around an active volcano, and befriend the locals. But yesterday's trekking not only had us foraging for food—fresh soursap or blackcurrant cheesecake, anyone?—but also we began to take notice of exactly how lush the foliage, fruit and flowers are...and how suggestive.

Mother Nature has a dirty mind down here...The Top Three Sexually Suggestive Plants Of Saint Lucia are after the jump. It's a weird idea, we know, but just wait until you see number one!

3. Bananas
This is a no-brainer. Before the island went gung-ho on tourism, Saint Lucia made a good living off of their banana crop. Unfortunately an island can't compete with the huge banana-producing countries of South America, and so the bunches that do grow on the island are either there to feed the locals or just hanging out for fun. Banana trees are in people's front yards, along the street, and maybe even dangling suggestively over your head as you kick back in a hammock. A banana hammock?

2. The Cocoa Stick
As Lady Gaga once sagely stated: "Let's have some fun, this beat is sick; I wanna eat some cocoa off your cocoa stick." That's how the song goes, right? These solid cigar-size rods of cocoa are sold in the markets for a dollar or two, and yet shaving off the cocoa into hot milk or tea gives your drink an exotic touch no Starbucks would dare attempt. These sticks are made from the island's indigenous cocoa beans, which are hand-peeled and foot-mixed at Fond Deux Cocoa Estate just outside of the town of Soufrière. Break us off a piece of that.

1. A variety of Ginger Lily
This list was totally worth reading just for this picture, right? We spotted this Ginger Lily flower on the aforementioned Fond Deux Cocoa Estate, and yes—we were puzzled at first. Turns out that the flower hasn't yet fully bloomed and thus hasn't ruined all the fun quite yet. For now, it remains the focus of our jokes and a newfound curiosity regarding Ginger Lilies.
