What's Going On For Yankees Fans During The World Series

October 27, 2009 at 1:55 PM | by kjb | 1 Comment

After several years out of the big game spotlight, the New York Yankees have returned to the World Series. This year is even a bigger deal since they’re proud to debut their new home. Whether you like the Yankees or the Phillies we wanted to give you the run down on what to expect at each stadium before, during, and after the game. Of course, feel free to ignore all this advice below if you'd rather just watch the game. After all, that's what you paid for.

· Before The Game
We’ve already told Big Apple natives the best way to reach the new Yankee Stadium, but we realize that loads of fans are coming in from the suburbs. Fans that are located within the Metro North service area will be happy to know that extra trains will be running directly to the stadium each night the game is in town. Just follow the schedule that’s most convenient to your neighborhood—there’s usually no need to connect through Grand Central. However, those stuck with NJ Transit will probably need to change trains.

Now that you’ve arrived you’ll need something to do, but forget about bringing your own pregame beverage—the city’s finest will be out in full force. So just head around the corner and down a few with your fellow fans at Stan’s Sports Bar. You’re not going for the service, but the atmosphere will certainly prepare you for a night of cheering. After you’ve entered the stadium, but before taking your seat, swing by Monument Park. Pay your respects to Yankee legends, but please, don’t get emotional, it’s just a game.

· During The Game
Once you’ve made your way to your seats, you’ll probably want to stay put. After all, if you went and got some bleacher seats on StubHub you probably spent at least $300 just for the rights to park your rear within the stadium. However, you will get hungry, but skip the hot dogs and go for a Lobel's steak sandwich. Nothing will hurt the Phillies more than showing them that New York can also cook a mean cheesesteak. Oh, and get some garlic fries too; those are a healthy side dish.

If singing your heart out during the seventh inning stretch isn’t your style, make your way to the New York Yankees Museum. It’s open throughout most of the game and tells the story of one of baseball’s greatest franchises. There’s loads of cool memorabilia and other artifacts, but just remember to look and not touch. If the game isn’t going well this might be the ideal distraction.

· After The Game
If the Yankees are winners you’ll want to remain in your seats for a bit to sing New York, New York with everyone else. If the Phillies got the best of your team, then head out of the place as quickly as you can. If you somehow have some cash left after the tickets and overpriced beers visit the team store for a souvenir. You just need a World Series shirt; otherwise no one will believe that you were in attendance.

For those that want to wake up in the city that never sleeps, it’s best to make it back over to Manhattan. Our better half, HotelChatter, already has the scoop on where to sleep off a victory celebration. There’s even a couple choices that will cost less than your tickets.

Check back later in the week if you prefer Ryan Howard and friends to Jeter and company.

...for those of you booking a hotel stay:

Before the game: Yes, Monument Park is a must. Also, book a Yankees pre-game hotel room.
After the WIN: book a Yankees romantic post-game hotel room.

Both are on sale for $144.95 to celebrate the first year of Yankees Stadium.
