Smithsonian Journeys Get (Kinda) More Affordable

October 27, 2009 at 10:39 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

It's not often that package tours excite us, but every time we read about the Smithsonian Journeys we get really itchy feet. The catch is that the price tag for the once-in-a-lifetime journeys is relatively high—usually pretty fair considering they include interesting experts and experiences that the average traveler often misses—but still kinda pricey.

But this could be your lucky week since a Smithsonian promotion arrived in our in-box with the promise of discounted prices, and we sat up and took notice. The tours are still not exactly in the budget travel range, but they're a little more affordable.

For example, their eight-day Alaska's Coastal Wilderness tour, traveling with naturalists to see whales and bears and to kayak through icebergs, has a deal going where bookings prior to December 22 will save 15% per person for the May 2010 trip. In another deal, if you sign up for the Costa Rica Discovery trip in March or April next year, and book before December 31, you'll get a free night at a hotel in Jaco Beach at the end of your trip. And finally, if you want to take your kids on the Tanzania Family Safari, bookings made this year will get $500 off the child's cost. Like we said, these tours still ain't cheap, but a bit of a discount sure helps.
