This Weekend In The World: All About Running And Runways

October 23, 2009 at 5:38 PM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

· Tokyo
Do you love the spectacle and glamor of a true Fashion Week, but perhaps you've never attended a real fashion show? Fear not this weekend if you happen to be in Tokyo, since Japan Fashion Week features gallery exhibits, parties, and public events in addition to the usual runways. For lovers of Japanese minimalism, avant-garde fashion, or the ultimate in hip streetwear, this is the place to scout for future trends. As a result, the city will be even more filled with the stylish sort, and we recommend toting your best camera to compile your own version of the popular magazine of Japanese street culture and fashion: Fruits.

· Frankfurt
Forget the Boston, New York, and Chicago marathons; everybody is running to Germany this weekend for the Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday. The 26-mile course winds through the many neighborhoods before returning to Frankfurt's city center. If you're not a runner, what does this all mean for you? Well, for one—the excuse to indulge in some carb-loading meals, get massages, and wear a tracksuit around while visiting various events around the city, like you're just another relaxing athlete.

· Coarsegold, California
This event is just too good to let fall by the wayside: it's the town of Coarsegold's annual Tarantula Festival, and you can totally BYOT (bring your own tarantula) since the town reveres them for their history and indigenous right to the area. Coarsegold just happens to border Yosemite National Park and the Sierra National Forest, so you can make it a good old American road trip weekend with some scary spiders thrown in for the October spirit. Read more in our original story on the event.
