Tilda Swinton is hosting a screening of the Powell/Pressburger classic "The Red Shoes" with a performance by the Houston Ballet, but she'll also be around for a sneak preview of a new movie, as yet unrevealedwe're betting it's the Italian romance "Io sono l'amore."
The festival will open with native son Richard Linklater's latest film, "Me and Orson Welles," which fits the bill of both being by and about an artist: The "Slacker" auteur nurtured his love of the movies in H-Town before moving to Austin, and his latest film depicts the famous director at work on a Broadway show and nurturing his young star (played by Zac Efron). Public screenings are $10 at night but just $6 at matinees. Can't make time for any of the performances? Check out the H Box, a free portable screening room that will be showing shorts from inside the Alabama Theatre (2922 South Shepherd).
