Where to Eat:
Director Drew decided to use the Wolverine Grill in Ypsilanti (a small city about 30 miles west of Detroit, just south of Ann Arbor) for a pivotal scene in the movie. Located at 228 W Michigan Ave, Wolverine Grill is a typical greasy spoon serving up good ol' American comfort food like hamburgers, tuna melts and fries. The retro looking diner has retro prices and hospitality to match, it might be one of the only places left in Michigan where you can still get a home cooked meal for fast food prices.
What to Do:
Detroit's own Derby Girls have become even bigger stars since landing on the silver screen in Whip It. The ladies will next compete against Madison's Dairyland Dolls on October 1st at the Masonic Temple Drill Hall, Detroit. You can also meet the girls on October 4th at Emagine Novi in Detroit. They'll be there from 5:00-7:00 pm, selling merch, meeting fans and giving out info on the upcoming roller derby season.
