The 2009 edition of "Around The World In 80 Days" sends six celebrity teams on one leg of the trip, for which they cannot take airplanesbut they get a GPS unit, which they will pass along to the next team at agreed-upon checkpoints around the way. They'll also be picking up artifacts that will later be auctioned off to benefit BBC Children In Need. As with many celebreality shows on this side of the pond, most of the names involved aren't well known outside the U.K.; the most famous is probably Scot John Barrowman of "Doctor Who" and "Torchwood," but should they hit a bump in the road, they could be the next British import to take off (no pun intended.)
The new "80 Days" airs Tuesdays at 9PM on BBC One, or you can watch it online if you're lucky enough to be in that part of the world. The rest of us will have to wait for DVD to find out how hard it is to race around the world sans airplanes.
