Anthony Bourdain Finds "Ryan Seacrest's Love Juices" In Mexico

January 6, 2009 at 9:34 AM | 3 Comments

Five seasons into "No Reservations" and Anthony Bourdain is running a little low on far-flung locales to eat his way though, so it's no surprise that this season starts in not-all-that-exotic Mexico City.

But Bourdain promises to show us that Mexico is about more than just tacos, tortas and quesadillas, and then proceeds to, well, eat a hell of a lot of tacos, tortas and quesadillas. Of course his are filled with tongue, tripe, brains and eyeballs, so what the ep lacks in imagination it more than makes up for in offal.

Tony spends most of the episode trolling Mexico City for street food--he says it's safe!--and judging by the beautiful blue corn tortillas and juicy al pastor tacos he tracks down, we think we'll skip the taquerias and head straight to the streets next time we're there, Montezuma's revenge be damned.

We're not, however, sure about a glass of his beverage of choice. Pulque is a milky fermented agave alcohol that Bourdain describes as "about as nutritious and delicious as Ryan Seacrest's love juices." Sorry, not seeing the appeal there.

But Bourdain's best find wasn't food-related at all; it was Mexican wrestling classes! What a perfect mix of classic Mexican and tacky American culture. Do they have this in Cancun too? Because we smell a new fad for drunk spring breakers.
