Stalking Danny McBride

January 28, 2009 at 2:10 PM | by kjb | 0 Comments

If you’ve seen Pineapple Express you are probably familiar with Danny McBride, even if you don’t recognize his name right away. He's also been in Tropic Thunder and Hot Rod and his Will Ferrell's new pet comedian.

We missed the chance to claim that we discovered him, but he’s about to become a little more famous as his new series, Eastbound and Down is set to debut on HBO next month. Until then, we’re looking to scope out where he came from, why he’s so funny, and where we can find him. And if you love the South, then you're in luck.

Our man was born in Statesboro, Georgia, home of Georgia Southern University. We’ll take a guess and propose that McBride dreamed of acting from a young age, influenced by all the communication majors hanging around town. Eventually, he would grow tired of his hometown, but he would remain true to his southern roots.

After high school Danny moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to attend the UNC School of the Arts. Although the school lacks any official sports team, they are very proud of their mascot--the fighting pickle. We'll assume wearing an art school hoodie adorned with a pickle around the quad helped shape this comedic genius. If he's not there, and you need some vittles, try Foothills Brewing. Although new in town, the place makes their own beer, and we can see Danny cleaning up on trivia night.

Once McBride made it big (at least with us) with his first feature film, Foot Fist Way, he probably started to spend some coin at his favorite watering holes in the Carolinas. Although the romantic Captain Olanders only exists in the movie, he's got to have dined at Dirty Dick’s Crab House in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. We’ll be at the bar just waiting for him to arrive.

If crabs aren’t your thing, you can set your stalker-self down somewhere in Myrtle Beach. In Foot Fist Way, his wife gets pretty drunk, "Myrtle Beach Drunk", and ends up hooking up with her boss. We're thinking this type of drunk happens right on the beach thanks to a nearby foam cooler from 7-11. If you can’t find Danny here, maybe you can find someone else that’s had one too many and start a real-life romantic comedy.

You’re best bet for a rendezvous with the super star is Wilmington, North Carolina. His new show, Eastbound & Down, is set and filmed in the town. He plays Kenny Powers, a former major leaguer kicked out for steroid use, who returns to the town he constantly dissed on his rise to fame. Although a hater on film, in real life, McBride loves the coastal town, and definitely prefers it to shooting on a lot in LA.

When you’re tired of checking out the filming locations, and are ready for some star hunting, settle down for a bite to eat at Sweet and Savory. We’ve heard Danny is a fan of the Shrimp and Grits, and probably the $5 pitchers on Monday nights as well. No matter where you go in search of our hero, let us know if you were successful!
