LGA Wants to Be Your Valentine

January 28, 2009 at 8:50 AM | by BS | 1 Comment

Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday this year, and the airlines are hoping that results in at least some customers shrugging off the economic blues and opting for long-distance love.

New York's LaGuardia airport, for one, is getting in on the V-Day love early, giving away complimentary chocolate kisses at the airport shops and restaurants, now through February 14. Last-minute valentines can also pick up special romantic "gifts to go" for their loved ones, which will be offered outside terminal stores like Borders and the Body Shop.

Kisses and gifts sound nice, but if LGA really wants to be our valentine, how about an update on those rumored Southwest slots?

    Here's your update

We don't have a date certain for the service, because there are so many steps in the process, including approval of the transaction by the bankruptcy court and the creditors' committee.

Once the transaction is a "go", we would begin work with the Port Authority to secure gate and ticket counter space.  One slot allows either one landing or one takeoff. With 14 slots at LGA, we could potentially offer up to 7 daily roundtrip flights.

    Hopefully more news soon...stay tuned!!!
