British Airways Gives You WiFi On All-Business Flights

When British Airways kicks off its all business class flights from New York to London later this year, all you business people should be mighty pleased: you'll be hooked up to in-flight WiFi right from the start.

The geeks behind this WiFi are Mobile OnAir who are also putting in flying internet connections for low-cost carriers Ryanair and bmi. OnAir just launched a similar offering for Kuwait carrier Wataniya Airlines for its Kuwait City-Dubai service.

At first, passengers will be able to use text messaging on cell phones and data services online only, with voice calls available "at a later date." Hopefully not until they've asked their high-paying business-class passengers whether they actually want to hear their seatmates making mid-air deals or not.

BA had always maintained that its passengers prefer the peace of a non-wired cabin when asked about adding WiFi; its reversal is probably related to a recent survey which found 44 percent of European airlines are planning to offer in-flight mobile phone access.
