There's Other New World Leaders Too

January 19, 2009 at 9:25 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

We’re all about Barack Obama and the inauguration, the parties, the celebs, and the hoopla. However, 2009 is a big year for some other world leaders as well. Since we try to be “fair and balanced,” we want to give a little love to the shining stars in some other countries.

In Belgium, the new government took power just as 2008 was winding down. Herman Van Rompuy is taking over as new Prime Minister as the former premier stepped down due to accusations of sketchy dealings. No after parties featuring Belgian hip-hop stars here, but he was picked by the king and will serve until 2011.

Over in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasinan is pulling a Grover Cleveland, and is back to serve as prime minister. She was the boss until 2001, but clearly wanted to give it her all one more time. She’s only been in office two weeks, but is already calling on police officials to control student violence.

Finally, in Ghana, President John Atta Mills already faces some challenges after being sworn on early in 2009. They’re blaming it on the former government, but apparently the country is broke. He’s busy at work appointing members to his cabinet, and hopes that some fresh faces in government can solve their issues. Good luck everyone!
