Australian Vacations May Save Marriages

Where: Australia
January 20, 2009 at 12:12 PM | by shiralevine | 4 Comments

There's no need for marriage counselors when you have strange videos and sub-$1,000 fares luring you to Australia these days. However, Australia.com seems to feel that if you don't vacation in Australia then you'll probably end up getting a divorce.

Check out this weird, yet beautifully shot video by Australia.com. Those Aussies apparently are all about good cinematography and odd perspective.

Basically, if you've lost sight of the simple treasures in life, you're in deep doo doo. Imagine in this economy, working too hard at your job. (On a rainy day at that!) You're working so hard that once again you've forgotten to call your boo to say that you'll be late for dinner again. But it has been one too many times now, and he says you've changed. You're not the sprite girl he married. And that's why you better book that trip Down Under STAT.

Otherwise he's going to leave you for an aborigine. Well, not quite. The insert of a shirtless, whispering indigenous Australian lad with muddy feet and unkempt hair certainly isn't PC though. Well, unless they made him SAG in a latent attempt at reparations. Let's hope that they at least gave him a shirt and some shoes.

We're not sure where the inspiration for this ad came from, but if you have a story of Australia saving your marriage or relationship, let us know.

    Maybe not so weird

I think that kid was the lead of the movie "Australia." This is actually a tie-in--that's why it seems so Peter Pan Weird.

    interesting...

many observations here. @suitcasegirl, i am not being facetious at all but seriously you are the first person i "know" that saw Australia. and wasn't nicole kidman's marriage falling apart bc her husband was philandering all over australia? and a random aside: i went to australia for my honeymoon. so i guess my relationship didn't need any saving at that point. but maybe it will count for reinforcement for the later years.

    or maybe....

it's just that the flight is so dang long that you are forced to talk out your issues with each other and then dazzled by the landscape you are so happy to have landed on safely.

    hmm...

ditto @suitcasegirl, I *live* in Australia but still don't know anybody who's seen Australia the movie. Except for a mother of a friend of a friend, if that counts. Even if the kid is in the movie, it all still seemed a pretty odd and extreme "plot" for an ad to me. Not the sort of reasons I want you guys to be visiting my great country. As for Australia and relationships, all it did for me was wreck one when my (now ex) wanted to move back to live here and I didn't. But of course I hadn't seen this advertising campaign back then so I'm sure things would be different today ... not ...
