Where The Party At? The Top Inaugural Bashes

January 16, 2009 at 4:30 PM | by colleenclark | 0 Comments

It's no secret that LA and New York are shipping the entirety of their bold-faced names down to Washington for Obamapalooza. But this is also (supposedly) a party for the people. Here's a round-up of the good, the amazing, and the so-amazing-you’ll-never-get-in.

For the people: Tickets are still available (to the tune of $250) to party with Jessica Alba, Samantha Ronson, John Legend and Jamie Foxx at the Declare Yourself “A New Birth of Citizenship” party on Sunday night. On Monday, the Beastie Boys and Sheryl Crow express a sentiment that many of us have been feeling with their Rock the Vote gala “Hey, America Feels Kinda’ Cool Again.” Tickets are sold out, but it’s worth trying your luck on craigslist.

On the big day, you can avoid the masses downtown in favor of the Common Man’s Inaugural Ball at The Wonderland, one of our favorite DC bars.

For the pretty, well-connected, famous, and/or exorbitantly wealthy people: Spike Lee, Sarah Jessica Parker and Oprah are expected to attend a ball honoring The Washington Post’s African-American issues website, The Root, on Sunday.

Monday pits a who’s who of hip hop—Russell Simmons, Mos Def, LL Cool J—at the Hip Hop Action Summit Ball against the tree huggers at Al Gore’s Green Ball. Every celebrity not at one of those balls will be at the Huffington Post’s PreInaugural Ball: Halle Berry, Glenn Close, Kenneth Cole, Diddy, Alan Cumming, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rosario Dawson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Fall Out Boy, Diane von Furstenberg, and Tom Hanks. Shall we go on?

Ok, how about Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Shakira, Steven Spielberg, Martha Stewart, Ron Howard, Samuel Jackson, Wyclef Jean, Jon Bon Jovi, Sting, Sharon Stone, Marisa Tomei, Denzel Washington, Will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder?

The official inaugural balls on Tuesday are the only places that our new President is guaranteed to show up, but we find it hard to believe he wouldn’t at least be tempted to catch a glimpse of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Adrian Grenier, and the other stars expected to attend the Creative Coalition’s Inaugural Ball at the Harman Center for the Arts.

How do you plan to celebrate the inauguration? Let us know.
