January 15, 2009 at 2:30 PM | by | Comments (8)

We've been hyping all manner of deals these first couple weeks of 2009, with an eye to both the economy and the fact that no matter how bad it gets we'll still be flashing our passports. But now we want to know: What's the latest travel deal you've scored?

Whether you booked one of our five airfare sales of the moment, noticed a must-visit hotel that popped up on HotelChatter's room rate drop watch or you're planning to take advantage of bargains in the cut-throat rental car market, how are you saving cash while still seeing the world?

The Jaunted crew has tried a couple strategies lately, including hitting up Whistler in the dead zone between New Year's and MLK Jr. Day, visiting a South American country where the exchange rate is quite favorable and hopping cheap buses.

Jetstar ...

... here in Oz I definitely prefer Virgin Blue but just booked a bargain with Jetstar on new routes they're starting, got Perth-Adelaide return for A$150, normally more like A$500 if you're lucky. Guess it's a bad time to start new routes so we get great deals to fill the planes :-)

DC for Inauguration - free room on HHonors points

Who said DC is sold out for the big event? Not only did I book a room yesterday but I booked the Hilton Arlington (a great hotel right on top of a Metro station FWIW) using HHonors points!! So, I got a great hotel during one of the peak of peak stay periods for nada! I predict more hotels will be dropping rate, minimum stays and allow point redemption.

nice!

@Hudson Crossing: that's awesome about your hotel room. and you used points no less! i might just have to add that to the HotelChatter Deal Drop.

vegas trip

i booked an upcoming trip to vegas and am staying at the Excalibur in a renovated room for $56 a night. The next night I'm at the Flamingo in a renovated room for $81 a night (Expedia.com) and I booked my flight through Southwest at $150. The flight I feel like could be cheaper. So I am going to keep on looking.

VAustralia

Yup. I booked it. Gonna do the inaugural flight. All in was $700 from LAX to Sydney, which is damn amazing.

LAX to PBI

with a stop in Houston for $252 including taxes. not bad. especially since considering last week it was $328! this is the first time it paid to wait.

Las Vegas

We just booked our upcoming Las Vegas trip and, with the exchange rate, we'll end up paying $400/person for 4 nights and direct flights.. Vancouver to Las Vegas $64+taxes/person (WestJet) Las Vegas to Vancouver $63+taxes/person (WestJet) Flamingo Hilton $39+taxes/first two nights, $99+taxes/last two nights

Deals to Vegas

I looked through a few online travel sites recently and found one site that what worked best for me. By spending a little time on DealsToVegas.com I booked my last Las Vegas vacation and saved quite a bit. Also if you're thinking last minute, consider DealsToVegas.com 's last minute deals. The offers on these pages are regularly updated and you can sometimes save as much as 50% off regular prices found elsewhere. Even if it is not a last minute vacation package, you might still find some very good deals to Vegas.
