Gossip Girl Travel: There's No We in Summer

Previously: In the Hamptons, Serena and Dan got back together, Blair got even and Nate got an older lady.

Time for one last fling in the Hamptons! Or, for Serena and Dan, one more walk of shame as they wake up on a beach together. Last year's golden couple decides in the steely light of day that they shouldn't get back together, only to be unable to keep their hands off each other. (Seriously, in the Jitney bathroom? That's just sick.) Finally, they decide to give into chemistry and get back together without telling anyone.

Blair, meanwhile, doesn't want her summer fling to end--she wants it to go on forever. Only problem? Mom!

Specifically, Marcus' mom, revealed in last week's preview to be Catherine, the cougar Nate has been in bed with all summer. Blair has been dying to meet the Duke and Duchess ever since she found out her summer squeeze had a title, so she throws a snoozeworthy party at the Hudson Hotel (356 W. 58th St.) to try to prove to Marcus that she has the right breeding.

Chuck attempts to sabotage Blair's plan by buddying up to Marcus over squash, and then bringing the Duchess--who hilariously keeps calling him Charles--to the party. Blair insults her to her face, then tries to make amends by reciting a litany of her crimes: "Limo sex, sexual torture of freshmen, blackmail--but I assure you, there's an explanation for all of it." Catherine sees through it all--"She made Waldorf rhyme with Spears!" cries Blair--but that's before she gets caught with Nate in the library bar at the Hudson Hotel.

We were just re-enacting that scene from Lady Chatterley's Lover...

Nate's sticking with Catherine and he kind of needs a confidante anyway, because the FBI has frozen his parents' assets and he has no money. The Bass fortune is keeping them afloat for now thanks to a quiet loan put through by Chuck, but Nate and his mom have a choice: Turn in Dad, keep their money; be loyal, be broke.

Also, Vanessa reappears to welcome Rufus Humphrey home from his tour and we learn that she spent the summer changing half his art gallery into a cafe, pining for Nate and apparently rethinking her personal style:

Bad move.
