National Parks Travel: Ken Burns' Summer Vacation

September 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Famed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns has been spending his summer vacation in and around the national parks of the United States and is set to unveil his work next fall. Even if you're more of a person who wants to experience the parks directly, the film will definitely inspire you to plot your own journey through the parks.

The LA Times caught up with Burns in Glacier National Park in Montana, as he, his family and crew finish off filming of "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," while enjoying their own summer vacation.

In this latest work, Ken Burns aims to reveal the thrill of the outdoors and to illustrate how the National Park Service and its facilities have been so instrumental in the development of the American character. He notes that the parks were set aside for everyone--not just the very rich or privileged--something that's still true today. If the film is anything like his previous works, 2009 can't come soon enough.
