Adventure Travel: Leap Tall Buildings in Suburban Paris

Where: Lisses, France
September 22, 2008 at 9:05 AM | by amandak | 2 Comments

Getting bored of sitting on a plane or train on your travels? Then you might need to head to Lisses, near Paris, for a session of parkour.

You might not know its name, but you've definitely seen parkour in action: That simultaneously crazy yet graceful art of jumping off buildings or climbing up walls made famous by Daniel Craig in the first chase scene of "Casino Royale." Lisses is the town where the whole parkour craze began and word is that on the last weekend of the month, a free training session takes place for novices.

Just meet at the famous Park du Lac--for example, this coming weekend should see some action--but don't forget to check first if your travel insurance will cover a broken leg caused by jumping off a staircase onto a wall.

    I've seen this on YouTube

I've seen tons of videos like these on YouTube and I think people in the U.S. are starting to refer to it as "free running."

I actually have a friend who wants to get into this and apparently he's met a lot of people already. It seems to have already caught on here in the states.

    Free running or parkour ...

... actually, I read that the purists believe there are big differences between parkour and free running. something about the style or the moves or the zen or ... something. To me? Same thing.
