In-flight Porn? Not if American Airlines Flight Attendants Get Their Way

One of the issues that arises from the introduction of in-flight wi-fi is that of internet pornography. Sure, it's great to be able to check your email and surf the web on your laptop instead of having to watch Wild Hogs or Cheaper By the Dozen 2 for the fourth time, but should people be able to access pornographic material in view of other passengers? The Association of Professional Flight Attendants doesn't think so. Bloomberg reports that a group of flight attendants from American Airlines has asked the company to filter its in-flight internet access to block inappropriate content.

It's clearly a ... complicated situation, potentially providing an army of lawyers many billable hours discussing the difference between public and private space and appropriate and inappropriate content. It's also just the latest front of an issue that's existed for years: I recall several guys shamelessly perusing hardcore magazines on a ferry from Valencia to Mallorca a few years back.

What can be done? Maybe technology will provide the answer. If audio can be truly personal through the use of iPods and ear buds, it's just a matter of time before viable video glasses are on the market as well. And if someone else can see your porn then, it's because they really, really want to.
