Active Travel: Up-River Rafting in Eastern Canada

September 15, 2008 at 1:05 PM | 0 Comments

Though the summer travel season is winding down, you can still have some warm weather fun through September. Head up to the province of Nova Scotia and point your GPS to the Shubenacadie River. The guides from Shubenacadie River Adventure Tours have all the gear you need to enjoy some late-season up-river white water rafting.

Thanks to the powerful tidal bore of the Bay of Fundy, you can experience the rapids of the Shubenacadie River "backwards." Apparently, these are some of the highest tides in the world, and waves as high as 10 feet aren't too uncommon!

If things get a little too intense, stop at the rafting lodge along the river to catch your breath and call your loved ones.

You'll also have access to a pool, volleyball, horseshoe pits, a complimentary barbecue and other fun stuff to help you have a good time even if the rafting trip gets a little too exciting. Rates start at $70 for a three and a half hour tour; be sure to double check the schedule, as your trip time will depend on the tides.
