Tickets for the events go on sale today for screenings in Woodstock and nearby Rosendale and Rhinebeck. The festival kicks things off at the Bearsville Theatre with a concert featuring Abigail Washburn and Bela Fleck. There's also a showcase on films shot, produced or edited in the Hudson Valley Region. For aspiring filmmakers, open panel discussions reveal the secrets to financing your own film, writing a score and even a career day to score that killer job.
Where to Stay:
Set only two miles from downtown, the Woodstock Country Inn welcomes you as soon as you begin your ride through the winding roads. The inn sits within the Catskill Mountains and was constructed from a 19th-century farmhouse. You'll be able to recharge your spirit and body as you relax in the heated outdoor pool that uses a salt water filtration system to ensure no chlorine or harsh chemicals interact with your karma. You'll awake each morning to a full breakfast including free-range organic eggs. Relaxing at this country inn will cost you between $195 and $275 a night until December 1.
Where to Eat:
Once the bucket of popcorn and box of milk duds no longer cuts it, head to the Garden Cafe. On the green in Woodstock, it's the town's only vegetarian restaurant and will definitely provide great organic fuel. The place prides itself on using local ingredients whenever possible and never using chemicals, genetically engineered products or trans fats. You'll find plenty of salads and whole grain entrees; if you just want something quick, swing by for a smoothie, they're all sweetened with maple syrup.
Where to Relax:
During the film festival you'll want some time to reconnect with your inner Roger Ebert. A yoga class at Bliss Yoga Center will likely do the trick. Founded by a NYC transplant in 2001, the center features only certified instructors familiar with yoga asana, meditation and pranayama. Most days offer a morning class and an evening class, but if you're looking for something more, there are specialized workshops that include massage theory and others that bring some music to the party. Single class rates begin at $17.
