Possible Presidents Travel: Virginia Is for (Lipstick) Lovers

September 10, 2008 at 4:15 PM | 0 Comments

While everyone else was manufacturing controversy about who's wearing lipstick and who's a pig, candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin hosted quite a rally this morning in Fairfax, Virginia--exactly the type of suburban town conservative pundit David Frum is worried the Republican ticket might lose come November.

According to organizers, more than 20,000 people turned up at Van Dyck Park to hear the duo's stump speech, though the local fire marshal said the crowd was smaller than that.

McCain jetted off to Philadelphia soon after the rally, headed for the Down Home Diner, a farm-friendly restaurant owned by one-time Food Network chef Jack McDavid. It's in the Reading Terminal Market, where if he really wanted to show up Barack Obama he'd actually try a cheesesteak.

Meanwhile the Democratic candidate also tried to woo voters in Virginia, making a speech about education at a high school library in Norfolk. Later Obama met with students at Granby High School and gave them some great travel advice:

I'm not sure I'd advise everybody to run for president. I've been sleeping out of hotel rooms for two years now and I miss my kids.
