Smoke Smell Causes AA Emergency, Disrupts A380 Visit to LAX

The last thing you want on a flight is a suspicious smell. But after a passenger caught a whiff of smoke, American Airlines Flight 31 to Honolulu turned around and made an emergency landing back at LAX this morning.

Even though emergency slides were involved, investigators never found the source of the odor. Ironically, firefighters were already at the airport to welcome an incoming Airbus A380 from Emirates Airlines. After the jump, break out the water cannons!

    It is good that AA turned back right away.  You would not want to be 2 1/2 hours out over the Pacific and have a fire.

    After Qantas had made the headlines down here in Oz with a million "incidents" in two weeks, bet they are so pleased to see this AA footage on the news now instead! Always looks great to have people sliding down those slides ...
