Mexican LCCs: Viva Aerobus

Where: Mexico
August 5, 2008 at 9:15 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

We've liked new Mexican LCC Viva Aerobus ever since they decided to give a $10 fare discount for traveling without checked luggage--rather than adding an unfriendly fee for people who do need a suitcase.

We also like their current deal with "free" flights from Austin to Monterrey--you have to pay taxes of around $80 but you still get to Mexico more cheaply than you would driving, as long as you're happy to fly on a Tuesday or a Sunday.

Or should we say, probably a Tuesday or a Sunday? Viva Aerobus has done its share of fuel crisis panicking by changing itineraries on short notice, so you should be aware that your flight date could be changed by a couple of days at the last minute. These random surprises seem to be part of life in the low cost carrier business these days so if you don't pay too much, you won't lose too much if luck's against you.
