New NYC Restaurant: Apiary

Sometimes new restaurants seem to get certain things just right, like the perfect appetizer or wine pairing, but screw up on the too-hard seats or the low lighting. This week we bring you a new restaurant panacea with Apiary, just opened in the East Village.

Apiary stems from a very smart partnership between swank French furniture company Ligne Roset and hospitality veteran Jenny Moon, meaning the space is comfy and beautiful (blonde wood, intimate tables) and the menu's got it going on too.

Chef Neil Manacle (who trained under Bobby Flay) takes the reins and serves up his take on spicy bistro fare with dishes like serrano-wrapped rabbit loin, smoked paprika pork tenderloin and rice flour battered calamari. Cool your tastebuds with hard-to-find microbrews (Maradsous Dubbel, Sly Fox Pike Head Pilsner) or seasonal sangrias or wine.

They're not total amateurs either, Ligne's done this (successfully) before in Moscow, Vienna and Paris. It's about time for the ultimate test in New York, and we have a feeling the place will do just fine. Another ideal combo? The chocolate cashew dessert tart, paired with cashew ice cream.
