Dear Cartoonists: Please Stop with the Oxygen Mask Jokes

August 18, 2008 at 10:16 AM | by | Comments (3)

Earlier this month, cartoonist Glenn McCoy released this panel, with a "hilarious" take on airline fees. We're willing to look past the fact that it's not really funny, but we can't get over how unoriginal this "joke" is.

In late May, cartoonist Steve Benson drew this same scene, only on his airline the oxygen costs $15, not $10. Compare his with another panel, drawn by Ken Catalino, in which using a mask will run you $3. At least that's a better price than $29.99, which yet another artist suggested in a recent cartoon.

Of course, we shouldn't complain too much about being unoriginal. We already registered our distaste for these 'toons in a post in June.

How unoriginal

Not nearly as good as the joke I made at the laundromat the other day about lost socks. On another note: NEVER fly Northwest Airlines to/from Memphis to/from Mobile, AL. They actually jump-started my plane on Friday. In the air it rattled back and forth like Michael J. Fox was piloting the craft (too much?). It was also wildly uncomfortable, but that is partly my fault since I am of above-average height.

Cockpit Crew

It would only be too much if you said that Janet Reno was the co-pilot.

This article on airline fees is excellent and it caught my attention; surely it must have been a time consuming challenge to research all of the various fees.
