Obama is on vacation this week on the eastern coast of Oahu, Hawaii, the state of his birth. The presumptive Democratic nominee isn't doing any official media appearances while he spends time with his 85-year-old grandmother, although he did release a statement criticizing Russian action in Georgia. But he's keeping in touch with his supporters by text and e-mail, and he's posted a form on his website to alert supporters when he announces his vice presidential choice.
The recently announced theme of the future veep's speech at the Democratic convention August 27 may provide a clue to the identity of the mystery man or woman: The running mate will be speaking on "Securing America's Future," one night after Sen. Hillary Clinton addresses the Dems on "Renewing America's Promise" and before Obama himself discusses "Change You Can Believe In."
Meanwhile, McCain speaks in York, Pennsylvania at a town hall meeting today, part of a two-day trip through the Keystone State. Yesterday's appearance in Erie with Tom Ridge fueled speculation that the former governor will be tapped for the Republican veep slot, something McCain called "a process we won't discuss."
