Active Travel: Horsing Around on Beautiful Back Roads

July 9, 2008 at 12:30 PM | by | Comments (0)

Tooling around, stopping off at the beautiful countryside inns of Tuscany. Wandering through the greenery of Ireland in search of your next destination. Touring the wineries of Argentina's Mendoza region. All totally rental car trips, right?

Not exactly. With Equestrian Vacations, you can travel back roads around the globe on horseback. The group offers different tours and themes worldwide, but we think the tours that take you from one bed and breakfast to another each day are the best bets. (You'll want a cozy place to sleep after riding high in the saddle all day.)

Besides its international destinations, the company offers a tour along the Northern California coast. Stops include the towns of Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz and Pescadero as well as visits to an organic goat farm and a winery. The itinerary's available through late October and starts at $2,325 per person. The price includes five nights accommodations, breakfast and of course your trusty steed.
