Philly Gets Its Own Iron Chef

August 1, 2008 at 9:35 AM | by | Comments (0)

Philly phoodies are constantly lobbying for their town to be taken seriously as a culinary destination, and now they're taking a step into the big time with their very first Iron Chef contestant

Jose Garces is one of Philadelphia's most celebrated chefs, thanks to his Andalusian tapas bar Amada, Basque wine bar Tinto and just-opened Mexican joint Distrito. Now he's taking on Bobby Flay on an episode of this season's "Iron Chef America."

The fun news for Philly eaters is that during the week after the episode airs on August 17, Garces will serve up the five dishes he cooks on Iron Chef at each of his Philly restaurants, as well as Mercat a la Planxa, the Barcelona-style tapas bar he opened in Chicago earlier this year.
