Adventures of Link: Arthur Frommer Celebrates 1,000 Blog Posts

Travel writing curmudgeon Arthur Frommer is celebrating his 1,000 blog update today by announcing that he's paring back on posting. Given his description of what it does to him, we can't blame the guy:

Back in May of 2007, I began this daily blog about travel and soon turned into a creature of bloodshot eyes and an exhausted, shuffling walk. Gone were the days when I could turn in around 11 pm and put myself out with a relaxing mystery novel.

Our two "favorite" things about his blog are the epically long titles on posts and the lack of linkage Frommer hands out. But you gotta admire a titan in the industry who cranks out his own stuff. (You are writing these yourself, aren't you, Arthur?)

In honor of his accomplishment, we took a look back at some of his more memorable posts.

Thanks Arthur! (none / 0)

When Arthur Frommer discovered our site, the thousands of visitors nearly brought our site down.

I've followed Arthur for years in his books, on his radio program, and more recently on his blog.  His devotion to travel and consumer advocacy is unequaled.

Here's wishing Arthur many thousands more posts.

Aloha, Jeff

Taking him down a notch? (none / 0)

What's with your snarky list of links to his columns? What's the problem with him writing about the recovery of New Orleans as it stood three years after the storm?  Frommer wasn't even writing a blog for a year and a half after Hurricane Katrina, but Jaunted's implication seems to be he ignored it at the time. A hundred travel sections talk about New Orleans the same way, and the Times' ethics are always being inspected, even this week by the McCain/Obama people. The author of this item should just come out and say what they mean. Is this a congratulatory post, or a flame?

Oh, god, Jaunted isn't going to be one of those blogs where the writers can't write a post without making a dig of some kind, is it? Where if it's not "cool," it's mocked? So unnecessarily cynical. So not what travel brings into my life.
