After Escobar died in 1993, the law enforcement officials he tormented took out their anger on Hacienda Napoles. The drug lord's collection of vintage cars was torched and his mansion was looted. Though the estate has seen better days, there's still plenty of fun to be had: Escobar's private playground has been turned into a theme park by the Colombian government.

Visitors to the estate can enjoy swimming in the late kingpin's pools and looking at his exotic animals. The large scale dinosaur models are also on display, but most visitors seem to be content simply being near Escobar's legacy. In the area around Medellin, he's still seen as a folk hero because he donated large amounts of money to the local poor folks.

Tourists looking for other Escobar-related attractions should check out Bogota's Hotel Tequendama or the Villa Escobar in Mexico. We rather check out the Hacienda to dig up the surrounding gardens in search of buried boxes of cash.
