Movie Set Travel: The Love Guru

"The Love Guru" opens today with Mike Meyers as another completely zany character, Guru Pitka. Originally an American, Pitka was raised outside the US by a host of other gurus. He returns home to launch a self-help business--and solve the romantic and professional problems of a pro hockey player.

We hear it's chock full of the off-color jokes and ridiculous nicknames (think Guru Tugginmypuddha and Harenmahkeester) that only a Meyers movie could claim.

This one was shot primarily in Hollywood North (Canada), so we've gotten creative and offer you some guru-themed spots worldwide to check out instead. Good luck with enlightenment--it'll take some extra work to attain after seeing this one!

Where to Stay: Hotel Guru, Chennai Check into this perfectly-named spot to check out your inner guru. Rooms are simple, and an on-site vegetarian restaurant will keep you full as you search for meaning. It's also just blocks from the airport, train station and major crossroads if you decide you'd like to travel in the area.

Where to Eat: Guru Restaurant and Wine Bar, Miami Beach Head to a rare Indian spot in South Beach, with daily specials that the locals swear by as authentic and delicious. The owner is an ex-Four Seasons Palm Beach-er so menu and ingredient quality remains high. The scene's more fun and less faux than you'll find at the average SoBe spot.

Where to Visit: Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre, Ulverston The English lake country is the setting for this meditation center and retreat which runs special programs in guru yoga and other practices. The romantic Gothic house is set on the shores of Morecambe Bay. Don't seek luxury here, as most rooms have twin beds set up dormitory-style, but the grounds are bucolic and restful.

this movie's reviews (none / 0)

look abysmal. But I did laugh at the "Mariska Hargitay" thing. Once.

the reviews are the worst i've ever seen for a legit comedic actor. the trailers so far have been so unfunny. it just looks like austin powers going in disguise as some love guru. and while JT's character sounds funny (Le Coq), jessica alba is like movie poison. i might catch this on HBO next year. maybe.
