Italy Travel: The Scoop on $15 Gelato

America's got peanut butter, Italy's got Nutella. It's Skippy's creamier, chocolatier, hazelnuttier second cousin and each spoonful gives good reason to celebrate. That's what Antonio Cafiero, owner of Sorrento's Primavera gelato and pastry shop, thought two years ago when he invited Italian actress Pamela Prati to bathe in a tub full of the chocolaty goo and call it Sorrento's first "Nutella Party."

The buxom brunette who bears a striking resemblance to a pre-Botoxed Janice Dickinson made quite a splash and now her photos cover the pasticceria from floor to ceiling, tempting the chocoholic in all of us.

Of course, the 8x10 glossies also give Primavera license to charge $15 for three scoops of gelato. No joke: That's this summer's going rate. Let's just say our visit to the shop yesterday proved quite profitable for Mr. Cafiero.

Traveler Tip: For savvy gelato indulgence in Sorrento, hop on the $2 bus and go two minutes outside the city to Piano. You won't find chocolate covered T&A but gelaterie here are authentic and a large cone is only $3.
