The season's much hyped horror hit from M. Night Shyamalan, master of all things terrifying, opens today. "The Happening" is the story of a family on the run from a natural crisis that threatens humanity.

Mark Wahlberg plays a science teacher named Elliot Moore who tries to figure out why everyone is committing suicide in violent ways. Pretty gruesome, but it sounds like M. Night to us.

Plenty of The Happening was filmed in lovely Philadelphia, one of our favorite cities. In that vein we offer you some cool things to do in Philly this summer:

Where to Stay: Penn's View Hotel Right in the heart of the Old City, Penn's is a refurbished 19th-century colonial building that's now a cozy boutique hotel. Some of the Premium King and Queen rooms have views of the Delaware and private balconies. The on-site restaurant, Panorama, has one of the most highly regarded wine lists in the city.

Where to Eat: Water Works Restaurant Once a municipal water delivery system, the water works were once a huge Victorian age tourist draw. Today's restaurant takes advantage of the amazing views and classic architecture, and guests can dine on items inspired by "America's melting pot" including vanilla-butter poached lobster.

What to See: The Barnes Foundation West of Center City resides one of the world's greatest art collections, begun by the son of a billionaire inventor, Albert C. Barnes. It opened in 1961 for educational purposes and you must have a pre-paid advance reservation to check it out.
