New Zealand is #1 (And #2, And #37)

TripAdvisor has unveiled its 2008 Travelers' Choice top destination lists--but only for those prepared to give away their email address to download the list. We've done it so you don't have to, and the big gossip is that New Zealand is still a hot destination.

Just how popular is New Zealand? On the list of the Top 100 Destinations in the World, it's taken not only #1 position with Milford Sound, but also #2 with Queenstown. It gets another few nods with #37 Auckland, #46 Wanaka and #48 Christchurch so we clearly should all be hopping on the next possible Air New Zealand flight. Maybe one day New Zealand will have more tourists than sheep.

More tourists than sheep? I hope not! (none / 0)

God help us, Amanda, if we even get part way to more tourists than sheep. We'd finish up like some of those dumps in Europe that are flooded with el-cheapo excursion yobbos.

The reason our locations rank so highly is because we have managed to avoid most of the environmental and social disasters of "the Old World". And parts of the New.

I also think that if tourists went to some of the more obscure NZ destinations we'd have even more locations in the top rankings . . . and as an instance I'd give you Te Urewera. Damn few Kiwis have ever been there yet it is one iof the most wildly beautiful, remote locations you'd find anywhere.
