NYC "Bodies" Exhibit Might Shut Down Thanks to Questionable Corpses

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has reached a settlement with the company behind the gruesome "Bodies" exhibition at the South Street Seaport in NYC, requiring them to disclose to visitors that the dead people they have on display could be

Chinese prisoners who may have been victims of torture and execution.

The settlement also requires Premiere Exhibitions--the company behind the show--to issue refunds to anyone who can prove that they paid to see the "Bodies" exhibit in New York and would've skipped it if they knew the people they were ogling might not have consented to being put on display.

Oh, it gets worse...

According to Cuomo, all of the human remains used for Premiere's exhibitions are obtained from the same questionable source: Dalian Hoffen Bio Technique Company Limited, an outfit that purchases "unclaimed" bodies from the Chinese Bureau of Police. Premiere issued a press release in response to the settlement admitting that they "can't independently confirm" the origins of the body parts at the NYC show.

Premiere also removed the South Street Seaport show from their "Bodies" site, though tickets are still available "through 6/1." If you're into seeing the plasticized corpses of potential political prisoners, you should probably act quickly: The five other "Bodies" shows across the country could also stop if Premiere faces more legal trouble.

The one good thing about all this is that you might still be able to qualify for a refund if you see "Bodies" in New York before it ends. Just pretend you never heard about any of this. It's like seeing dead people--and they're free!
