European LCCs Might Be in Trouble

Is this the beginning of the end for budget airlines in Europe? We've heard a rumor--or perhaps we've been trying to start one--that trains are starting to reclaim travelers in Europe, and with rising fuel costs, many are speculating that many European LCCs won't survive.

Here's some cold, hard proof: A bunch of airlines made losses for the month of April, including Vueling, SkyEurope and Germanwings.

Admittedly, this April was missing the usual travel bonus of Easter, but industry watchers are going all doom and gloom on the situation. It seems for some low cost carriers there's not much choice other than being reborn as a high cost carrier--but that just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?
