Gather your gals (and Anthony Marentino-types!) and get fabulous because the big day is finally here. Sex and the City opens today and we can hardly wait to run to the theater in our Manolos and outrageously patterned prints! All of the ladies--Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha--make it back to the big screen.
The movie picks up about three years after the series ended, with Carrie as Big's fiancee, Miranda as a Brooklyn mom and Charlotte as a happy adoptive parent. Samantha meanwhile has decamped to Malibu with the ever-stunning Smith. Of course there are cosmo-laden reunions, a big wedding day to plan, fights, changes and all the inner dialogue a gal could ask for.
In the spirit of the sexiest city of all, we offer you some spots to check out in The Big Apple, where the film was mostly shot. Don't forget your tutu!
Where to Host a Smashing Party: New York Public Library, 5th Avenue The main branch of the NYPL has it all: old school glamour, stunning architecture and plenty of marble steps to ascend. You can rent it out for private parties (event planners are required) or just visit any day of the week from 11 am-6 pm. This is where the big event in the film takes place...
Where to Check in: Hotel Giraffe This hotel may look unassuming, but the building's Piano Suite area was actually transformed into Big's apartment for sections of the movie. With interiors inspired by the 1920s and 30s, rooms feature 10-foot ceilings, original photographs and Egyptian cotton sheets and towels. Book their "Diva's Only" weekend package (at $445 per person) and get all kinds of groups treats like prosecco, a pole dancing class and manicures.
More, you ask? Why, just keep reading....
Where to Get Together for Dinner: Buddakan Right on the tip of the Meatpacking District, Buddakan sits like an elaborate temple to modern Asian cool. Book a table in one of the hidden rooms--we like the library--or hold court in the main dining room where everyone is sure to spot you. Don't miss the edamame ravioli or crab fried rice. A group perk? Every dish is perfect for sharing with friends.
Where to Meet for an Outdoor Lunch: Bryant Park Called "one of the most sensual, graceful open places in NYC," Bryant Park is chock-full of beautiful people every summer afternoon, when all the stylish folks get freed from their offices for sunshine-filled lunches on the lawn. Don't miss the free Monday night summer film series, starting June 16--just make sure you're there well before 5 pm to stake out a spot.
Where to Buy Some Designer Duds: Diane VonFurstenberg Boutique Head to the Washington Street store--where a shopping scene was filmed--to pick out your perfect, timeless dress or to just pick the racks and gossip with the gals. Just like Manolos or a Kelly bag, DVF wraps never go out of style!
